About the project

The COVID-19 pandemic and its associated containment policies have created widespread economic distress. The government of India announced a nationwide lockdown on 24th March 2020 which was then rolled back in phases by 30th June 2020. The fallout of the lockdown is expected to have persistent and pervasive impacts on the rural economy that many believe will outweigh the direct effects of the pandemic itself.

IDinsight’s interactive data dashboard aims to help policymakers, the public, and other stakeholders visualise and analyse how rural Indian households were affected by COVID-19. The dataset, collected between May and September 2020 in partnership with the World Bank and Development Data Lab, focuses on how COVID-19 affected people in India’s rural communities. The dashboard focuses on the following key areas: agriculture, labor and income, consumption, migration, access to relief services, and health.
