KJ Zhao (Kejian) (Zambia)

Impact Measurement Senior Associate

KJ Zhao is a Senior Associate with the Impact Improvement Team at IDinsight, based in Lusaka, Zambia

KJ is passionate about ensuring impact remains IDinsight’s North Star. In this role, she builds and runs a measurement system that assesses IDinsight’s social impact – within projects and across portfolios – and guides organizational decision-making.

Previously at IDinsight, KJ provided innovative and decision-focused research and M&E advisory to clients in Africa and Asia, such as Africa CDC, GiveDirectly, and UNDP. She has experience designing and implementing impact and process evaluations and monitoring systems, including managing remote and in-person data collection.

Prior to joining IDinsight, KJ worked with the Center for Effective Global Action and the Department of Economics at UC Berkeley on the technology and development research portfolio, including the BMGF-funded Digital Credit Observatory and the USAID MERLIN-funded Expanding the Reach of Impact Evaluation initiative. She also gained entrepreneurial and policy experience in the environment and energy, and education sectors.

KJ holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Social Anthropology (Honours) from the University of St Andrews and a master’s degree in Development Practice from the Goldman School of Public Policy at UC Berkeley.
